To refrigerate: Allow the shredded chicken to cool completely then transfer to an air tight container. It will still work great in any recipe you have planned. If you don’t think you have the patience to shred it, just use a knife and cut your chicken in to bit size pieces. You can also shred it with a powerful handheld mixer, two forks, or just your hands once it cools off enough.Keep mixing until your chicken is as fine or as coarse as you like it. Add three or four pieces of chicken whole to the bowl, get a good grip on it and turn it on. I love to do this with my Kitchen Aid stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. You can use a meat thermometer to check if you aren’t sure when you’re there.Īllow the chicken to cool enough to handle before proceeding. There’s no need to cook it to death, but you do need the chicken to reach 165 degrees. Step Three: Roast the chicken in the oven until just cooked through. We no longer use vegetable oil but you can do that if you want to. Don’t be shy with the seasoning.īecause you’ll be roasting your chicken in the oven under reasonably high heat (400 degrees) use an oil that can handle those temperatures without smoking. Step Two: Season with avocado oil, salt and pepper. I’m making a bit of both so that we get some of the flavor and fat from the dark meat (it helps keep things from drying out). Use this opportunity to make as much or as little chicken as you’d like and use all white meat or dark meat or a blend. Step One: Lay cuts of chicken on a cookie sheet. How to make shredded chicken step-by-step My all time favorite chicken comes from Katie’s Best or we’ve had (referral link) great luck with Moink’s chicken which you can mail order. This means my chicken didn’t pass through a chlorine bath which also changes the texture of the meat. I also check the package for “air cooled” verbiage. That’s not a deal breaker, but the flavor just seems cleaner. I also find that I like the flavor of chicken fed a vegetarian diet. This ensures that your chicken won’t weep water all over your pan in the oven, and that your money goes to buying actual chicken–not water. When you are choosing chicken to roast and shred, do your best to get a brand that has the lowest amount of retained water possible. I’ve seen them range between 3% and 20%+ depending on the brand. You can read how much “retained water” is in your favorite brand right on the package. Have you noticed? That’s because most boneless skinless meat is injected with a salt water solution at the packing plant. Just use all boneless or all bone-in so everything gets done at the same time. If you are mixing thighs and breasts that’s fine. If you use bone-in, please note that the cooking times will be different than listed in this recipe but I think the flavor is even better. Wings and legs won’t work here.īone-in, skin-on breasts (also called split breasts in the package) or bone-in skin-on thighs would be best for oven roasting but I find it hard to locate them in my stores. If you want a milder flavor and less fat go with breast meat. If you prefer dark meat, more fat and a stronger flavor use thighs. What cuts of chicken are the best to shred? Oven roasting also concentrates flavors–not dilutes them with water from boiling or bobbing around in a slow cooker and it’s a lot less likely to over cook as long as you keep an eye on things. This nonverbal communication is incredibly important and helps set the stage for eventual speech production. Crying, pointing, and babbling are examples as well. Remember, signs are just one of many forms of nonverbal communication your child already uses to express themselves. Teaching a baby sign language in conjunction with words helps promote language growth. Baby signs simply allow children to easily express themselves when the word might not yet be available. A child is always learning and developing language. Signs aren’t intended to replace verbal language. If anything, teaching a baby sign language in conjunction with words helps promote language growth. This is a misperception that's not rooted in fact or research. Some parents are hesitant to teach their baby signs because they worry it could delay their speech and language development.Īfter all, if a baby can express their needs with simple gestures, won’t they be less motivated to learn words? Sign language encourages infant independence as well as their nonverbal communication, and it leads to a happier, less frustrated baby.Ībby Barnes, M.S., CCC-SLP 8 MINUTE READ Can teaching baby signs cause delayed speech development? It can also increase the bond you have with your child by making you more responsive to their needs. Using common, simple gestures makes it easier for everyone involved to interpret your baby’s desires. And when less familiar caregivers are involved, like extended family members or daycare staff, it can even be more challenging. We make educated guesses based on our experiences, but we don’t always get it right. And no one likes to see a frustrated baby or toddler. Parenthood is often consumed by trying to figure out what our child needs at any given moment. The goal isn’t to be perfect or become fluent in ASL, but simply to help children better express themselves through gestures while also learning the associated words. You can even create your own gestures with the goal of making it easier for your little one to communicate. While they are not considered true ASL, and therefore don’t include the rules and grammar of ASL, they are easily performed and can help children articulate their needs before they say their first words. These signs are a modification of American Sign Language (ASL), but have been simplified and adapted for use by babies and toddlers. Let’s dive in.Ībby Barnes, M.S., CCC-SLP 6 MINUTE READ What is baby sign language?īaby signing is a collection of simple gestures that help children communicate their needs nonverbally. Research has shown that a baby’s ability to use gestures and signs is one of the stronger predictors of language success, and children that produce more gestures early on will develop larger expressive vocabularies as they age.īest of all, teaching your baby signs is easy, and many kiddos catch on quickly. It can also help cut down on any frustration your child is experiencing. That’s the idea behind teaching baby sign language! It gives parents a peek inside their baby’s thoughts, and provides a new way to help them communicate what’s on their mind. Here's the good news: You can help your child communicate much sooner, even before they've said their first word! Many parents and caregivers find themselves living with this mystery until their baby is able to use real words. How often do you wish your baby could communicate their needs-whether they’re hungry, thirsty, tired, or want a toy-without the cries and temper tantrums? How many times have you looked at your baby and wondered what they were thinking? And, the style guide has everything broken down for you when it comes to formatting the body of your paper. However, if your teacher requests it, be sure to add it to the references. This is also true of personal communication, like interviews. For example, classical works don’t need to be listed in your references. Some sources don’t need to be cited in the reference list. Title of presentation: Subtitle of presentation. But, when it comes to two to twenty authors, you need to write them out in full. When listing authors in APA article citations, follow the same basic format for one or two authors as you did for your in-text citations. Besides being double spaced and including a page number, you need to put your references in alphabetical order. Just like everything else in your paper, your references list needs to follow specific rules for formatting and creating your citations set forth by chapters 9 and 10 of the APA manual. Rather than use the author-date format, you create footnotes in APA style using superscript numbers in the text and a reference at the bottom of the page. In the first game, Cerberus was a bunch of idiot mooks that you mowed down for XP. To wit: If these writers thought Shepard was indoctrinated in the last stage of the game, we would know it. This theory involves an incredible level of subtle symbolism, which goes against just how ham-fisted the rest of the story is. I think that would be better than the ending we got, but I don’t think it it was ever intended by the writers. I just finished a re-play of Mass Effect 1, and it’s shocking just how many things seem stupid, contrived, inconsistent, or pointless now that I know how they turn out.Īnd no, I’m not a believer in the “ indoctrination theory“. I know it’s childish and melodramatic when fans say, “This new thing has RUINED this series FOREVER!” I don’t want to go that far, but I will say it’s done a lot of damage. It fails thematically, it fails logically, it fails at basic coherence, and it fails to be consistent with what has come before. But right now we’re talking about the ending to Mass Effect 3, which I rank as the worst ending I’ve ever personally played. I’m writing this mostly to get it off my chest.Īnd to deflect the likely objections: Yes, the rest of the game is often quite good, and there were many “fanservice” moments where players got things they had been hoping / waiting for since the original game. The truth is, my nitpicking skills are wasted on this, and I don’t have a lot to add to the conversation. The problems with the ending are very obvious, and I don’t think it takes a keen analysis or a deep understanding of the Mass Effect lore to uncover these issues. Also, most of what I say here is just a re-hash of points that have been made elsewhere. It should be obvious, but this post is going to be complete and total spoilers for Mass Effect 3. |
